The very first text adventure I ever played and I was instantly hooked.
This at the time seemed to play out like an interactive book though as most text adventure games it's quite linear in the way it's designed to point you to do things in certain locations.
The games gives freedom of choice where you move unless you're stuck by a puzzle or something barring your path.
I loved the idea of collecting the treasure items and returning them to one specific location.
Some treasures may solve a problem for you to pass something getting further into the adventure but using a treasure gives you less than the 100% score you need. The perfect example is the bear you locate later in the game.
The area with the African bees is RNG so my advice is to save at that location.
Definitely a great place to start playing text adventures, just about right for a beginner.
It's a two word parser game, I believe it takes the first three letters of a word for it to understand what to do.
Vocabulary are your standard words in the main but when you get to the bear like I did all those years ago I guarantee you'll probably be scratching your head for a few days unless you get very lucky.
Absolutely fantastic atmosphere. The game gives you all you need in the text based form to map out in your mind the locations you visit.
The cassette/cartridge image on the front of the box sets up the adventure perfectly.
The only sections that were tough were the section with the African bees being RNG and the area with the bear otherwise this is a standard logical adventure.
Standard puzzles that require a little thought except for the bear location which requires a different thought pattern to the standard logic.
My first adventure and probably the best known of Scott Adams/Adventure Internationals output.
Almost as important as Colossal cave.
