This game was a magazine type-in listing, and (at least the version available online) contains some
bugs; so the solution includes workarounds.
First we will go for the optional hints and storyline:
open eyes, look [message on typewriter: 016362416HLPLN], n, w, w, s, call helpline
Next we get Pete to perform in the theatre to distract the guards (necessary to rescue Roger):
s, get dress, n, n, e, n, get sack [for Roger later], s, e, e, d, s [never go south from this
location as it will crash], w, get Pete [never drop him as it will crash], e, n, u, w, n, n, w, give
show [now the guardroom is empty]
Now we rescue Roger, which involves a motorbike and an improvised ramp:
e, s, s, e, u, n, get sabre, s, u [standing on the chair is the intended solution but not required],
get Roger, d, d, d, s, kill dragon [using the sabre; the knight gives you a motor cycle helmet; note
that you can repeatedly kill the dragon due to a bug, and also that the helmet can never be picked
up, so be sure your inventory is not full when the knight tries to give it to you], drop sabre, w,
get Manic Miner, e, n, u, w, w, w, enter well, n, dig hole [Manic Miner digs an escape tunnel for
you to use later], look, fill sack [with earth], get sack, w, w, s, s, w, w, s, w, get pump [the
shovel is an unusable red herring], e, n, n, pump tyres, drop pump, get motorbike, s, w, w, build
ramp [with the earth], escape Roger
Next we save Tony, with a rope of knotted sheets from the battlements:
e, e, e, get squeezy bottle [for Pete later], n, get box [of cornflakes], s, e, e, d, s, e, free
Tony, feed Tony [now the cornflake box is empty], get Tony, n, get sheets, w, u, u, u, tie sheets
[into a rope], tie rope [to the battlements], escape Tony
At this point the program crashes with "C Nonsense in BASIC, 0:1". We have to set
Tony's "escaped" flag manually and continue:
LET F(14)=1: GO TO 1050
Now Pete can be saved, by assembling a home-made plane:
drop rope, drop Tony [we shouldn't still have them and they will clutter our inventory], d, d,
w, get Jet Pac cartridge, n, n, w, get Pete, e, s, s, e, u, e, e, e, pull lever, read Blue Peter
book [how to build a plane from various junk we are carrying], get manuscript [it disappears but a
secret attic opens to the east], e, build plane, open skylight, escape Pete [for some reason this
repeats the skylight response], escape Pete [it says we can't do that]
Apparently this is another bug, so break into the program and flag Pete as rescued:
LET F(15)=1: GO TO 1050
Now leave via the escape tunnel that Manic Miner dug earlier:
w, w, w, w, s, d, w, w, w, enter well, n, escape
